Leonard Lebeda, 87 of Draper, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, November 4 at the Draper Methodist Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, November 5 at the Draper Methodist Church with burial at the Draper Cemetery
Leonard was born on August 13, 1924 in Murdo, SD the seventh of 14 children to Thomas and Sophia (Kroupa) Lebeda. He grew up and attended school in Murdo where he was active in the 4-H. He lived and worked almost his entire life in the Murdo - Draper area.
On October 8, 1947 Leonard married Ruth Styles in Pierre, SD. They made their home in Draper where he worked as a carpenter and farmed and ranched. He was a member of the Draper United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a member of the Draper Volunteer Fire Department, also volunteering as an EMT for many years on the Jones County Ambulance.
Leonard enjoyed getting together with his family and friends to play cards and visit. He enjoyed crafting wooden items as gifts and loved to display and show his many pictures of family and friends.
He is survived by two sons: Rickey and wife Ella Lebeda of Loveland, CO and Ronnie Lebeda of Draper; three daughters: Judy Rippe of Belle Fourche, SD, Sharlene and husband Butch Rada of Pierre, SD and Kathy and husband Leonard Witte of Aurora, SD; five brothers: James, Wilburt, Anton, Fred and Thomas; four sisters: Julia Broecher, Annabelle McDaniels, Betty Beck and Leone Kreager; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his parents Thomas and Sophia; daughter Nancy Lindquist; sons-in-law: Gary Lindquist and Don Rippe; grandson Shawn Lebeda; siblings: Bernard, Daniel, Kenneth and Helen Andrews. His children and grandchildren will remember him as their hero with big gentle “Daddy hand
